Image Notes

This image is an example of opportunity meeting preparation. We’re in the Okavango Delta in Botswana at the end of our day, capturing the rich red sun as it sets. The copious dust in the dry air makes for rich colors at sunset. I was using my 500 mm lens to magnify the sun and surrounding sky color, shooting several images with the palm tree, when our safari guide said “Larry, wait, there’s a flock of birds coming in from the left.” I waited and as the birds flew into the frame, they flew right in front of the sun, and I captured this amazing image. One other note, there was no adjustment to the sky or sun color or saturation; this was right out of the camera. I just cropped it slightly and voila, an amazing image that couldn’t have been anticipated.
