Image Notes
In early August one year, my friend John and I were making the pre-dawn trek up the summit of Mt. Blue Sky, west of Denver, Colorado. We were hoping to get a relatively clear morning with rich high altitude light for our photography that day, but as the surroundings began to get lighter, it became apparent that the cloud cover was going to make our hoped for light, a disappointment. However, there was a sliver of clear sky at the eastern horizon, and that allowed the rising sun to illuminate the cloud cover from below, and a glorious fire-light lit the sky. We were at Summit lake when the sky became ablaze, and we quickly set up and gathered images. Shortly thereafter, the sun rose above the clouds, the clouds won and the light went flat. A fleeting moment, but preserved forever.
